Baby massage is the perfect way to soothe, calm and enjoy time with your little one. As well as strengthening the bond with your baby, massage can help with a number of health issues including colic, constipation and poor sleep patterns.
Long before babies are able to speak, they communicate with the world around them through touch. Touch is the most powerful sense a baby has when they are born and the power of touch to soothe and heal is instinctive.
You can massage babies from birth but we recommend to attend baby massage courses after 6 weeks of age or after baby has had their 6 week check up.
Premature babies can greatly benefit from massage and scientific studies has proven that massage can help promote good health and well-being as well as help baby gain weight. It is normally advisable to wait until a pre-term baby has reached their due date before starting massage and always check with a medical professional.
Baby massage can also be of great benefit to babies with Downs Syndrome and Cerebral Palsy as it’s a unique way of soothing and communicating with them.
Introduction of regular massage into your routine will help your baby to sleep and settle better. It’ll help your baby’s muscles relax so breathing becomes deeper as massage raises levels of the ‘feel-good’ hormone oxytocin in both you and your baby. This helps you both feel calmer, more relaxed and strengthens that all important mother and baby bond.
